fun with animals!

saw this at the dvd shop last week; they had a set for nearly every zoo animal. wtf…

after the greatest two minutes of my life, skateboarding through Shanghai South Railway Station, the sun streaming in through the glass roof, I descended into the waiting area and crashed into bad news.

“train K71 to Chongqing has not arrived, and maybe will not arrive until this evening”

‘this evening’ could mean six, seven, eight….

apparently there’s some flood in Chongqing. I hope the Three Gorges Dam didn’t break. can’t change my return flight though so i’m flying out tomorrow morning.

the turnout at last night’s show really exceeded my expectations. Lots of people + brand new speakers at LoGO hitting real nice like.

couldn’t play this at a dance-ish show, but really digging this band at the moment.

Wavves - So Bored

obama - 100 days

random thoughts/observations

- pig flu? anyone have it?

- was drinking beers with a Chinese business guy yesterday and he explained to me the three kinds of people in this world: men, women, and female phDs (women with experience). apparently Chinese men really don’t like women who’ve traveled abroad/have powerful positions, etc.

- yesterday afternoon, zoned out on the subway, listening to the new A-Trak album (pretty hot), when I heard a loud thud. chinese girl my age collapsed right next to me (maybe seizure, couldn’t tell though), landed right on her nose, gushing blood everywhere right as the train pulled into people’s square station. people actually handled it pretty well, no trampling, etc. perhaps due to a giant foreigner blocking the incoming herd of people with his skateboard shouting “bu neng jin qu.”

- hamilton house = a really, really solid place to throw a party.

- it’s far too nice outside to sit in the office, and as the battery on my laptop lasts about three minutes unplugged, I’ll leave a few songs as I exit.

First up, a Boy 8-Bit remix of one of my favorite Burial tracks. If you don’t know Burial, get on that.

Burial - Archangel (Boy 8-Bit Remix)

and…..yes, there’s rock and roll bands in China. Hedgehog = one of the best. I’m not sure about the name of this track because iTunes converted the Chinese characters into hieroglyphics or something when I imported it…sorry.

Hedgehog - Unknown (from the new album, Blue Day Dreaming)

show next tuesday

I don’t have to work next Wednesday - Sunday, and I’m probably headed to Chongqing. In celebration, we’re throwing a low-key party, sans flying chairs and gore.

I don’t actually have much nu disco (Mau Mau made this flier). I like that ol’ disco bullshit, e.g. this…

sorry if you’re ADD and can’t handle long tunes.

i ain’t no gay fish…i’m the voice of a generation.

Mistook another loaf of regrettable Chinese bread for challah last night. There’s a bakery epidemic in this town, but none can get it right. The Chinese don’t understand the difference between cake and bread, can’t make either correctly, and end up at some inappropriate mid-point. Clearly none of them give a fuck about bread, and just see bakery proprietorship as an easy tap into the emerging middle class’s wallets.

They need single cookies. Peanut butter cookies. Choco cookies. Any Chinese bakery entrepreneurs got this blog on their RSS?

Sweet Supreme Court decision
in the states..the police can’t search vehicles nearly as easily now during traffic stops/arrests. Would have helped out a lot of the kids I went to high school with.

Here’s a few tracks I’ve had on repeat over the last month. Much more coming soon.

One of my favorite new bands, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. Kinda sound like The Smiths with obvious shoegaze influences. Almost a flawless album.

Old school Masta Ace track, with the bangin’ beat from Original Concept’s “Knowledge Me.” This track almost makes me wish I still had a car to tear around the suburbs like a retard in.

peanut butter and broken glass.

what up world? long time no post. still breathing construction dust in shanghai. still playing shows. feels like a long time since i’ve posted.

speaking of shows, props to all who came out last week for the back-to-back Baijiu Robot shows at C’s and Yuyintang. i’m pretty sure someone died at the first show. halfway through Mau Mau’s set, some Chinese guy tore across the dance floor, barstool overhead, which he then smashed on some other Chinese guy’s head. i’d never actually seen someone fight with a barstool before.

nor had I seen anyone fight with broken bottles, but that went down too. Enough blood for a transfusion spilled as the fracas grew to at least ten men. Music stopped, white people got scared, white people left, and thus our payment -contingent upon sales, dwindled.

so don’t fight with sharp objects at our shows, because we need to pay for music machines.

thinking about starting a peanut butter company. sick of eating the Chinese Skippy, my only option.  besides baijiu, what do you want to see in HeatWolves PB?

i like HEALTH, and they just dropped a new track. peep.
